Why should pot be illegal?

I don't understand why it's such a problem. Alcohol is legal, and it causes way more problems than pot, but everyone uses the painfully stupid excuse that it's not a drug. It doesn't matter, it's an addictive substance that can hurt you like drugs. Pot can really stimulate the economy, it would ease tension in those who are violent, and help many people with their pain. Also it will help turn away that who want to take even worse substances such as PCP and cocaine. They say it's illegal to protect the children, but kids are going to get pot anyways whether it's legal or not. Pot is not dangerous. There are some negative effects, but is it really worse than the substances we take in everyday like cigarettes and beer. Pot is not dangerous to other people to. It's not safe to DUI pot, but it isn't safe for alcohol and cough syrup either. So what's the problem.
