Why is everyone on drugs?

I don't understand it, nearly everyone is on some kind of drug; ecstasy, weed, alcohol, ciggarettes, cocaine, heroin, pcp, you name it. I'm not on anything. I was into drinking for six months or so, but finally stopped a year and a half ago. I'm not trying to judge but I just don't get it, why is it that no one is sober anywhere?
